Ladies’ Arabic Level 1
Master the building blocks of the Arabic language…
Taught in 14 weekly lessons, this beginners’ Arabic course is the perfect way to start your Arabic learning journey! You will be taught either by BA Arabic Graduate Ella Linskens or BA Arabic Graduate Sophie Colell.
How does the course work?
You will study Arabic in small groups online with an experienced and enthusiastic teacher. A weekly one-hour class will expose you to new vocabulary and grammar concepts. You will be provided with bespoke learning materials including a vocabulary pack, homework book and revision material.
What does the course cover?
The course covers the essentials of Arabic grammar. An emphasis is placed on acquiring and retaining Arabic vocabulary and you will be exposed to over 120 new words.
What sort of Arabic do we study?
This course places its focus on fusha (formal literary Arabic), whose grammar applies to both Modern Standard Arabic and classical texts. It is a great course for students who wish to study the language of the Qur’an.
Who is the course aimed at?
This course is perfect for those who can read the Arabic script and now want to study Arabic as a foreign language. It’s also well-suited to those who have dipped their toes into various Arabic grammar courses before and want to pick up the language again.

How are the online classes conducted?
Our classes are conducted via Zoom. You will be sent a ‘Getting Started’ sheet with all the necessary information before the first lesson. You will need a laptop, pen & paper and a stable internet connection. It is not advisable to take lessons on your phone.
What happens if I cannot attend a session?
The classes are all recorded and made available online. This way, you can easily catch up if you happen to miss a week.
What is the time commitment?
Besides the one-hour weekly class, students will need to put aside another 1-2 hours weekly for their Arabic studies if they wish to make substantial progress. This includes 10 minutes a day of vocabulary study, as well as the completion of weekly homework.
What happens when I finish a course?
Upon completing a course, you will be invited to progress to the next level after a short break.

Are there any prerequisites for Level 1?
You should be able to confidently and fluently read the Arabic script. If you are not at that stage, then get in touch separately and we can set up reading lessons.
